Ref:16695  FRODSHAM, Chas. Finsbury Sq, London. No 1477. 8-day box chronmeter, circa 1840. 3-piece brass bound, finely figured mahaogany box. Double-frame fusee movement, as first designed by J R Arnold. Earnshaw-type spring-detent escapement, compensation balance and blued-steel balance-spring. Silvered dial with state of wind indication, blued-steel hands. 21 x 21 x 21 cms.

Dana J Blackwell Collection. A fairly early 8-day chronometer, with beautifully signed dial. Box and bowl are later than the movement and the the detent has been replaced, probably more than once. Plates, once spotted, have been polished. Othererwise an early example of Frodsham's ouput and a modest price for an 8-day machine. Movement not cleaned by me but this can be arranged if wanted. NB: This chronometer is in the United States and will need specialist shipping and handling. Please enquire as to likely costs.
