 Ref:26377a  BLISS & CREIGHTON, New York. No 1186. 2-day box chronometer, circa 1840. 3-piece mahogany box. English supplied fullplate fusee movement, finished by Bliss. Eanshaw type spring-detent escapement and balance, the latter being a precursor of the type later Patented by Bliss. Silvered dial with state of wind indication, gold hands. 17 x 17 x 17 cms.

Dana J Blackwell Collection. A rare American finished chronometer in fine original condition, now so rarely found. Box in good condition. Bowl and gimbals with some original lacquer. Dial in good condition with just a few minor spots of corrosion. Detent in good original condition, as is the balance and 12-turn helical balance-spring. Movement not cleaned by me but this can be arranged if wanted. NB: This chronometer is in the United States and will need specialist shipping and handling. Please enquire as to likely costs.
