More details

Gold plated case with snap-on stainless-steel back. Smiths classic 12.15 (12 ligne, 15 jewel) movement, as developed in 1945/6 by Robert Lenoir and his team at Cheltenham, now upgraded with shockproof mounting for the balance. Club-tooth lever escapement. Monometallic balance with Beryllium balance-spring. Crisp unmarked silvered dial with mix of dagger batons and numerals, original gilt hands. 34.5 mm diameter. Together with original PAT.APP.FOR gold plated FixoFlex expander strap, stamped for and retailed by Smiths.

A rare model not shown in any of my catalogues. For more information about Smiths English wristwatches see the short note in my website Glossary, and my illustrated article on Smiths ‘English Wristwatches’ in the April 2003 issue of Antique Collecting. NB: All Smiths wristwatches of this date are best kept well away from damp conditions. Please also be aware that most Smiths wristwatches that survive show all the signs of much use, often with water damage, particularly to the dial. I do not deal in such watches and offer only those examples that have survived in very good or better condition with, wherever possible, original rather than refinished dials.

The watch in lovely original condition, looking like it has hardly been worn at all, the strap showing wear to the plating - this of course be replaced with a leather strap if wanted. Cleaned and guaranteed.
