Well finished duplex watch by this famous London maker.
Gold case hallmarked 1814, casemakers FC/FHB (Frederick Comptesse with Frederick Humbert, a partnership not mentioned by Priestley, but see Grimwade). Nicely engraved capped fullplate movement with Harrison's going fusee with cap jewels on balance (diamond) and escape. Duplex (frictional rest) escapement retaining the original ruby roller, now so often lacking or replaced with steel. Flat steel balance, spiral balance-spring. Perfect one-piece signed enamel dial, gold hands. 53 mm diameter.
Santiago James Moore French, Royal Exchange, London, a fine watchmaker with examples of his work in most Museum collections around the world.
Some wear showing on the bow, otherwise a fine duplex watch of the period in very good condition, and with a beautifully signed dial. Cleaned and guaranteed.
