The watchmakers of the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland.
Printed board, 231 pages, text in French, illustrated throughout. Editions Antoine Simonin, 2006.
Daniel Aubert gives accounts of Samuel-Olivier Meylan, Louis Piguet, Edmond Audemars, plus Adolphe Nicole and Jules-Philippe Capt who left Switzerland to work in London by 1838. While the book provides much invaluable information, that regarding Nicole & Capt is often inaccurate, which is perhaps only to be expected of this Swiss based author. That said, the book is recommended as La Vallée is at the heart of much Swiss watch manufacture, with firms such as Jaeger LeCoultre and Audemars Piguet still based there.
