Good quality free-sprung movement with unusual lever escapement, circa 1885.
Three-quarter plate keyless going-barrel movement jewelled to the centre, with cap jewels on balance (diamond), lever and escape, the 14-size frame stamped JW (Wycherly). Double-roller detached lever escapement of unusual inverted roller form, as sometimes seen in English work of this period, the lever of 'tuning fork' shape. Compensation balance, free-sprung balance-spring with overcoil. Signed enamel dial. 44 mm diameter.
Cajetan A Rinecker "watchmaker" working in the heart of London's West End, close to New Bond Street and Burlington Arcade.
John Wycherly, one of the best and most famous Liverpool watch rough movement manufacturers, supplier to most of the best English finishers and retailers of his day.
Lacking hands and dial with edge chip. Otherwise complete and in fine original condition. Not cleaned by me but will tick happily when wound, but do be careful when dismantling as the upside down roller makes it easy to damage the roller jewel when removing the balance.
