One of the very last English wristwatches sold by Smiths, post 1970.
Larger sized gold plated case, the snap-on stainless-steel back stamped SWISS MADE CASE. Smith 27:CS 17-jewel movement, a development of the 12.15 model and a very late use of this caliper. Double-roller detached lever escapement with steel escape, the monometallic balance with beryllium balance-spring. Circular brushed silvered dial with gilt batons highlighted in black, with matching hands, even the centre-seconds with a black tip. 34 mm diameter, not including button or lugs. Together with original Smiths green velvet lined Astral box, as sold.
This model not show in Smith 1968 catalogue but similar watches feature in their 1971 catalogue fitted with Swiss movements - Smiths ceased production of their own cases and movements abruptly in 1970. This classic 70's design of dial must have been issued soon after the end of production, presumably when using up their old stock of movements. For more information about Smiths English wristwatches see the short note in my website Glossary, and my illustrated article on Smiths ‘English Wristwatches’ in the April 2003 issue of Antique Collecting.
Case, dial, movement and box in very good original condition, showing almost no signs of wear. Fitted with new black leather strap. Cleaned and guaranteed.
