Three-quarter plate keyless (hunter set) going-barrel movement jewelled to the centre, with cap jewels on balance (diamond), lever and escape, the 14-size frame stamped JP (Preston). Very well finished double-roller detached lever escapement, the lever with gold safety dart held by a screw and a steady pin, the roller with triangular impulse pin. Top quality compensation balance with quarter-timing nuts, multi-coil free-sprung balance-spring with double overcoil. Perfect signed enamel dial, original blued-steel hands. 43 mm diameter, 8.5 mm deep, not including centre arbor.

Charles Frodsham (1810-1871) the most famous of the Frodsham family of clock and watch makers, began to also sign some of his best watches AD Fmsz. This code stands for the date 1850, signifying, it is thought, his new caliper of watch designed in that year.

Complete and in very good, almost mint, original condition apart from one minor scratch on top plate. Not cleaned by me but will just about tick when wound.
