Brass with mahogany handle. A type of practical English tool with a long history, being shown on the trade card of Francis Thompson, circa 1750, having the earliest known representations of horological tools. This pattern also shown in the Peter Stubs Tool Catalogue (see Crom) item 127. 8 1/2 inches (21 cm) in length.

In fine condition, the brass with good unpolished patina.
