Rare and very early series I movement, circa 1858.
18-size 7-jewel split-plate movement, the barrel-bar engraved with the date of Reed's Paten 'Nov 24, 1857.' Club-tooth detached lever escapement, the lever having 'upright' pallet jewels. Steel balance, spiral balance-spring. Enamel dial, blued steel hands. 46 mm diameter.
E Howard & Co, famous manufacturer of European-style hand-finished watches in America.
NB: Howard serial numbers under 200 rate no less than four stars in my old copy of the Cooksey Shugart Price Guide. This is the last of the Edward Howard movements from the Wing collection I am offering - details will also be viewable on my website. My thanks to the Wing estate for allowing me to record them in this manner - all my images are available in high-resolution for commercial use if required.
Cracked dial and broken balance pivot, otherwise looks to be complete. Not working.
