Good lever movement retailed by this interesting anglo-German firm, circa 1890.
18-size Lancashire fullplate fusee movement, the cap stamped W&A.O. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Compensation balance, spiral balance-spring. Signed enamel dial, gilt hands. 46.5 mm diameter, 11 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
Camerer Kuss & Co, 522 New Oxford St, established 1788, becoming Camerer Cuss in 1914 in response to the anti-German feeling at the outbreak of World War One. The firm is known to have retailed clocks, many German made, but they also sold English made watches. Theo Cuss took to dealing in antique watches in the 20th century, writing two books on the subject, a practise which has been continued by his son Terence.
Mismatched hands, small hair crack and seconds bit needs re-gluing, otherwise in good original condition. Not cleaned by me but will tick happily when wound.
