Centre-seconds wristwatch, with SMITHS Company provenance.
English two-piece 9ct gold case hallmarked 1974, sponsor's mark SCW (Smiths Clock & Watch Division). Swiss 17-jewel movement with 'Incabloc' shock protection and milled decoration to the plates. Double-roller detached lever escapement. Silvered dial with a mix of raised gilt batons and numerals, original matching gilt hands including the Smiths trademark of a red tipped seconds hand. 33.5 mm diameter, not including button or lugs.
Smiths ceased production and stopped fitting their own movements abruptly in 1970 at which point they started to use Swiss made movements. Looking much the same as their all-English 'Astral' wristwatches, but the bottom of the dial shows SWISS MADE. For more information about Smiths English wristwatches see the short note in my website Glossary, and my illustrated article on Smiths ‘English Wristwatches’ in the April 2003 issue of Antique Collecting.
Case, dial, movement in very good original condition, just the glass showing a few signs of wear, the back engraved 'Presented to Mr E J KEEP by SMITHS INDUSTRIES...1.5.1975.' Fitted with new/old stock brown leather ACCUTRON strap. Serviced and guaranteed.
