Good all-English wristwatch, circa 1962.
Gold plated case with snap-on stainless-steel back. Smiths classic 12.15 as originally designed by Rene Lenoir and his team around 1945, but now with shock resistant setting for the balance, 'Permalife' unbreakable mainspring and other improvements. Club-tooth lever escapement with steel escape. Monometallic balance with 'Chronospan' temperature compensated balance-spring. Silvered dial with marked horizontal texture, known as 'shantung' in the trade at the time, with matching gilt hands. 32 mm diameter.
Smiths model T.305/S, as shown in their PLANNED TIME leaflet which was issued in 1962. For more information about Smiths English wristwatches see the short note in my website Glossary, and my illustrated article on Smiths 'English Wristwatches' in the April 2003 issue of Antique Collecting. Please note that this case design is not waterproof, and all Smiths wristwatches of this date are best kept well away from wet and damp conditions.
Plating to the lugs showing the usual wear, otherwise in fine original condition, especially the dial and hands. On new/old stock brown leather strap. Serviced for its previous owner and looks to be working well.
