Best quality fancy link 'double Albert' waistcoat chain, circa 1900.
Solid 18 ct decorated trombone and twisted-link chain of very heavy weight, with T-bar, twin dog clips and spring bolt, every link stamped 18, the T-bar and dog clip also stamped JG&S (John Goode & Sons, Birmingham). Just over 18 inches (46 cm) in length, weighing no less than 118 grams.
John Goode & Sons Ltd, Regent Place, Birmingham "manufacturers of bright and coloured gold chains...", also with a London Office in Hatton Garden - see Culme.
NB: Most gold watch chains weigh under 50 grams, the heavier examples being perhaps 60 or even 70 grams. This example, at nearly 120 grams, is the heaviest I have handled, and it needs both a large watch and large constitution to do it justice.
Fine condition, showing few signs of use, a most magnificent example regarding design, weight and manufacture. I have not seen another such example.
