Rare fusee movement with up/down, circa 1875.
Three-quarter plate fusee movement, the 18-size hollow-back frame stamped J.B (probably James Berry, Prescot). Single-roller detached lever escapement. Gold balance, spiral balance-spring. Cream enamel dial with state-of-wind indication at 12, signed RENNISON'S IMPROVED PATENT, gold hands. 46.5 mm diameter, 8.5 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
George H Rennison, recorded at Bishopwearmouth and later in Sunderland, Co Durham. I can find no trace of any Patent taken out by Rennison, though the term' Patent' was sometimes used if 'Registered.' If so, I cannot make out just what was Registered, or improved.
Staff problems, chain off and dial with small edge chip. Otherwise complete and the only example of its kind I have ever seen. Not working.
