Cylinder movement, circa 1840, ex Clockmakers' Company
Half plate hollow-back fusee movement numbered on the frame. Cylinder (dead beat) escapement with original steel escape. Gold balance, spiral balance-spring. 36.5 mm diameter, 7.5 mm deep, not including centre arbor or dial.
Thomas Earnshaw junior, 119 High Holborn, London, famous son of famous chronometer maker father.
This movement, rather poorly described, can be found in the 1975 Clutton & Daniels catalogue of the collection, item 384. It was presented to the Clockmakers' Company in 1913 by the great collector Evan Roberts. The Company sold it via Sothebys, 10th December 1981, Lot 34.
Lacking dial hands and motion work. Not cleaned by me but willing to tick if wound. Sold as needing at least cleaning and fresh oil to work properly.
