More details

Silver pair case hallmarked London 1800, the outer with contemporary watchpaper, casemaker EL (Edward Leeming). Nicely finished and engraved fullplate fusee movement with balance-brake, the silver cap signed as the movement and stamped LF. Verge (recoil) escapement. Steel balance, spiral balance-spring. Lovely white enamel dial of unusual layout, with large offset seconds and date indication, gold hands. 61 mm diameter.

Daniel Gill, High Street, Rye, recorded as a silversmith, watch and clockmaker as well as an agent for Royal Exchange Assurance, eventually also becoming a banker. His former shop, taken over by his son Samuel, now bears a blue plaque and Daniel's Will can be consulted at the National Archives, Kew.

Dial with the usual but hardly visible small hair crack, otherwise a large and unusual verge watch in fine original condition - the watch has been used, but also well looked after. Serviced, including a new unscratched high dome glass, and guaranteed.
