Good quality keyless movement by this famous London firm, circa 1890.
Beautifully signed three-quarter plate (openface set) going-barrel movement jewelled to the centre, the raised barrel engraved with twin crests, the 16-size hollow back frame stamped JP (Joseph Preston). Double-roller detached lever escapement, the lever of 'tuning fork' pattern. Perfect, off-white (Willis quality) signed enamel dial. 44.5 mm diameter, 9 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
The London firm of Charles Frodsham 'By Appointment to the Queen' the most famous of the Frodsham family of clock and watch makers, the retail firm at this time joined with Nicole Nielsen & Co who produced most of their watches. Lacking hands , balance and balance-spring, otherwise complete and in good original condition. With its perfect dial and extensive jewelling, an ideal project for the established restorer or novice wanting to learn. Not working.
