HORNE & ASH, London. No 4670

Fine late Georgian half-quarter repeating movement, circa 1810.

More details

Capped fullplate fusee movement, interestingly without the usual barrel-bar of the period, with best quality Stogden repeat work mounted under the dial, the cap stamped IE. Duplex (frictional rest) escapement retaining the jewelled roller. Gilt brass balance, spiral balance-spring. Lovely one-piece cream enamel dial with convex edge, with seconds at six, gold hand. 45.5 mm diameter, 15 mm deep, not including centre arbor.

Horne & Ash, St James St, London, retailers of top quality and high fashion Regency clocks and watches. This is one of few items known to have survived.

Lacking hands, an escape arbor jewel appears to be broken and a small edge chip to the dial at the 3-minute mark. Otherwise in good but uncleaned condition, the plates showing the iridescent bloom of dried oil. Not working.
