Rare Smiths salesman's case for six wristwatches, circa 1955.
Gold tooled blue cloth covered box with red velvet compartments for holding six watches, the padded silk in the lid also bearing SMITHS crown logo. 10.5 x 6 inches (26 x 15 cm).
A very rare survivor, this being the only example I have ever seen. This may be a salesman's box used to show Smiths latest designs to the retailer. or it may have been used by the retailer on the shop counter allowing customers to try on the latest styles. Either way, it makes an ideal present for the Smiths wristwatch collector who has (almost) everything.
In used condition, the corners showing signs of wear and the internal silk a bit grubby. Both press studs work correctly, however, and the velvet compartments have survived in fine condition. Shown with a De Luxe wristwatch for size comparison - the watch is not being sold with the box.
