A fine collection of unusual and complicated Swiss and English watches.
Printed card covers, 44 pages, 31 watches described and illustrated with b&w photos. 1st and only edition, Horological Institute of America, 1959
Includes some wonderful and world famous watches by Patek Philippe, tourbillons by Nicole Nielsen (for Dent and S Smith), a chronometer by Kullberg (for Benson) plus an explorers cased watch and a double dialled watch by Nicole (for Dent), amongst others. The descriptions by Henry Fried now show their age, but this does not detract from the watches themselves.
James Ward Packard, a rival collector to Henry Graves of fine Patek watches, bequeathed his collection to the Horological Institute of America on his death in 1928. The Institute, later changing its name to the American Watchmakers Institute, sold the collection of Patek's in the early 1990's in order to raise funds for its new premises in Harrison, Ohio.
A very rare publication. Some shelf wear to covers, otherwise clean.
