Top quality cylinder movement in lovely original condition, circa 1775.
Capped and jewelled fullplate fusee movement with pierced and engraved slide plate and cock. Graham's cylinder (deadbeat) escapement, retaining its original banking via a pin in the cylinder - see my drawing of this feature. Steel balance, original 4-turn blued-steel balance-spring. Beautiful 'Roman & Arabic' enamel dial with distinctly curved edge. 38 mm diameter, 16.5 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
John Fladgate, Conduit Street, London, a fine watchmaker judging by the finish of this watch: note the steel minute pinion and that fact that it is pinned on its post, the two-part case bolt and spring, the best quality gilding, engraving, escapement, etc.
Lacking hands and the joint broken where it was twisted from its case (butchers!), otherwise in fine complete and original condition, the best quality London dial with just the slightest blemish at the edge, between II and III. Not cleaned by me and tries to tick when wound, but will need a service and fresh oil to work properly. Sold as not working.
