Rare English Patent going-barrel movement, circa 1865
Small and slim fullplate key wound movement with barrel-bar, the top plate engraved PATENT 2564, the pillar-plate stamped PATENTED BY I FLINN SENR. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Gold balance, spiral balance-spring. Damaged two-piece enamel dial. 35 mm diameter, 7.5 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
T P Wright, Holloway Road, retailer.
John Flinn the elder, Coventry "watch manufacturer." Patent No 2564, October 1861: an intermediate wheel is placed between the barrel and the winding wheel, so that winding is in the same direction as a fusee watch.
Dial incomplete, hands and motion work lacking, etc. Despite the problems, this is a most unusual Patent, which I cannot remember seeing before, and is fairly early for English keyless work. Neither do I remember coming across this particular Coventry manufacturer before. Sold as not working.
