All-English made gold ladies wristwatch.
2-piece Dennison 9ct gold case, hallmarked Birmingham 1962. Smiths 8 3/4 ligne 15-jewel gilded movement with 'Permalife' unbreakable mainspring. Double-roller detached lever escapement with steel escape, the monometallic balance with beryllium balance-spring. Silvered dial with raised gilt numerals, original blued-steel hands. Width 24.5 mm across corners. Together with what I believe is its original rolled gold strap.
This exact model does not feature in any Smiths catalogue owned by me, but Smiths produced a host of different designs for women, though mostly not in solid gold cases. For more information about Smiths English wristwatches see the short note in my website Glossary, and my illustrated article on Smiths ‘English Wristwatches’ in the April 2003 issue of Antique Collecting. NB: This case style is not waterproof and all Smiths wristwatches of this date are best kept well away from wet and damp conditions.
Case and dial showing few of the expected signs of age and use. Not cleaned by me but tries to tick when wound. Sold as needing a service to run properly and priced accordingly. It can be freshly serviced if required - cost approximately £120+VAT.
