Rare example of a lever watch cased in Reid's Pinchbeck-type metal, circa 1850.

Engine-turned case the cover and fixed dome stamped REID's PATENT under a Crown. Key wound fullplate lever movement numbered 5092, the cap stamped 'B'. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Steel balance, spiral balance-spring. Enamel dial, gilt hands. 44.5 mm diameter.

This Patent is not covered in Class 139, relating directly to horological inventions, and I have left it for others to search in which Class it will be. NB: I have only seen one other example of this Patent Pinchbeck-type metal in a watch case, so believe it to be truly rare.


Small hair crack into seconds bit, otherwise in good overall condition, showing some age and wear but generally complete, original and sound. No cleaned by me but will just about tick when wound. Sold as needing at least a service to work properly, and I have not polished the case.
