Unusual calliper of centre-seconds movement with tourbillion-like balance-bridge, circa 1910
Three-quarter plate keyless movement, jewelled to the 3rd (centre), with balance-bridge reminiscent of Kullberg's 'curiosity' caliper, a balance-brake acting on the roller and top plate engraved with Russell's TEMPUS FUGIT trademark. Single-roller lever escapement. Compensation balance, overcoil balance-spring. Perfect signed enamel dial with sunk centre, gilt hands. 49.5 mm diameter, 10 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
Thomas Russell and Son, one of Liverpool’s most successful and innovative watch manufacturers by the end of the 19th century. A large and unusual ‘stop-watch’ calliper rarely seen.
Lacking counterpoise from rather bent centre-seconds hand, otherwise in good original condition. Will tick happily if wound.
