Unused automatic wristwatch with Japanese movement, circa 1975.
Chromed case with stainless-steel screw-on back. Japanese supplied, 7 jewel E01 shockproof self-winding movement. Detached lever escapement. Radially brushed silvered dial with batons, steel hands. With 35 mm not including winding button. Together with its original velvet lined plastic box and guarantee certificate - not filled in.
Smiths centre-seconds model MA4822, from the period shortly after they shut down manufacture of their better quality movements, including the English made Astral model, in 1970. For more information about Smiths English (not this model) wristwatches see the short note in my website Glossary, and my illustrated article on Smiths ‘English Wristwatches’ in the April 2003 issue of Antique Collecting.
New/old stock, showing shelf wear only, still retaining most of the the original stock label on rear - all part of the interesting Smiths post-war story. On original rather nasty black plastic strap but, on a better quality strap, it would look most presentable. Not cleaned by me as this watch is in totally original condition, but it will tick if wound.
