More details

Heavy 9ct gold Dennison ‘Aquatite’ case with screw-on back, hallmarked Birmingham 1964. Smiths best finished ‘12.15’ movement with 18 instead of the usual 15 jewels = 12.18. Club-tooth detached lever escapement with best quality Beryllium balance-spring having an Arnold/Breguet overcoil. Silvered dial with a mix of raised gilt batons and numerals, with original matching gilt hands. 33.5 mm diameter. Together with Garrard & Co Ltd silk lined box complete with the original 'Take Care of your Watch' booklet.

Garrard & Co Ltd 'Crown Jewellers' 112 Regent St, London, retailers of Smiths best finished watches at this period, most of which bear Ford Motors or South Eastern Gas Board presentation engravings.

A combination of Smiths best movement and Dennison's best case make this certainly my choice for wear, but, though sold as waterproof, I recommend all watches of this date are kept away from damp conditions. NB: These movements have an additional jewel at the centre as well as cap jewels on the escape and are also fitted with overcoil rather than spiral balance-springs, all reserved for Smiths best work.

Case back with South Eastern Gas Board presentation inscription to C P Greenyer. Plating to original button showing the usual wear and some general signs of age to case and dial, otherwise in fine original condition. Fitted with new brown croc leather strap and now in a replaced Garrard box as the one that came with the watch was damaged. Serviced for its previous owner and working well.
