Stylish ‘art-deco’ keyless dress pocket watch.

Slim, English made 9ct gold lenticular case with snap-on back and bezel, hallmark London 1951, casemakers D.S.&S. (David Shackman & Sons, Birmingham). Thommen 'Revue' calibre 65 nickel split three-quarter plate 15 jewel movement. Typical Swiss straight-line double-roller detached lever escapement, with steel club-tooth escape. Monometallic balance with poising screws, spiral balance-spring. Stylish two-tone silvered dial with gilt Roman numerals and matching gilt hands. 45 mm diameter and only 11 mm deep, including glass, 51 grams total weight.

Vertex Watches Ltd, the company name used in the UK by the important Swiss manufacturer Thommen SA, who are still based in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Their watches often bear the more common name of Revue - see also Pritchard and Culme.

The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd, 112 Regent St, London, amalgamated into Garrard & Co Ltd in 1952.

Some minor marks of age showing on the silvered dial, as usual, otherwise a most wearable watch in good original condition with a plain polished back, never having been engraved. Serviced and guaranteed.
