Stone & Allen, Shrewsbury, retailers.

Edward Massey, Newcastle, Coventry and Liverpool, escapement manufacturer and Patentee of the first extensively used detached lever escapements. Catalogued in recent times by Alan Treherne, the various types have come to be called from 1 to 5. Roller types-I and -5 are the earliest and good examples are now rare, followed by types-2 and then -3, the most common. NB: Type-4 does not refer to a roller but is a seconds beating escapement, usually fitted with a type-3 roller - few examples are known.

Later hands but lovely dial, the movement complete with power in the mainspring and the balance swinging freely, but no power getting to the escape. Sold as needing at least a service and fresh oil to work correctly.
