Good late Prest keyless movement by this most famous firm, circa 1843.
Three-quarter plate going-barrel movement with cap jewels on balance (diamond) and escape. Original single-roller detached lever escapement. Gold balance, spiral balance-spring. Signed enamel dial. 42 mm diameter, 8 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
John Roger Arnold, the famous son of a famous father and a very good watch and chronometer maker in his own right. This is a late example of a Prest's Patent keyless movement and was made with a detached lever rather than a jewelled cylinder escapement
Previously sold in Charles Allix & Associates 1994 Postal Auction Catalogue, No 1, Lot 34, Dial with hair cracks, lacking hands and the balance not running freely - possibly a mushroomed pivot. Otherwise a rare late example of this caliper. Not working.
