Double back 18ct gold half-hunter case, the front cover with unusually large aperture and its enamel chapter ring in white, matching the dial, a most stylish design, hallmarked London 1903, casemaker J.A (James Ayres, Clerkenwell). Half plate keyless movement, jewelled to the 3rd, with cap jewels on balance, lever and escape. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Compensation balance, blued-steel balance-spring with overcoil. Lovely off-white signed enamel dial by WILLIS in perfect condition, original blued-steel ‘moon’ hands. 49 mm diameter.

Joseph & Henry Jump ‘Previously with Vulliamy’ 1A Old Bond St, Piccadilly. A most select London firm, carrying on the best English clock and watch making traditions. A 1907 letterhead in my collection carries the following information “ Makers of High Class Watches & Clocks, Dealers in Antique Clocks, examples by Breguet, Vulliamy, Jump & the Old Masters”

A fine Edwardian London watch of a most wearable size. Case bow showing some slight signs of use, otherwise the watch almost as new, with no previous ownership engravings and the enamel chapter and dial showing no damage at all. Serviced and guaranteed.

NB: If anyone is a fan, as I am, of David Suchet's television portrayal of Hercule Poirot, they will know he is shown using a most inappropriate 'farmer's verge' watch. Instead, this is the class of watch Agatha Christie's creation would/should have worn.
